The Web 2.0 Builder

23 September, 2009

Building contractors aren’t renowned for embracing technology, or delivering what you’d describe as a great customer experience.

But one enterprising Canadian homebuilder is trying to change that, using web 2.0 tools to reassure his customers that their build won’t turn out like a reality TV nightmare.

Martell HomeBuilders lets clients track progress using a Basecamp web-based project management tool, also posting weekly photo updates of every home it’s working on.

And to prove they’re not on an extended tea break, you can keep tabs on the exact location of your builders using a Google Maps / webcam / Twitter mashup.

Unsurprisingly, company founder Pierre Martell loves Facebook, is an avid blogger and has even been invited to speak at the forthcoming Blog World Expo in Las Vegas.

At a time when everyone and their mum is scrambling to jump on the social media bandwaggon, it’s refreshing to see a company using these tools to radically improve the contractor / client relationship.
